What advice do you have for my first time car hire?
We want to make renting a car easy and enjoyable. If this is your first time renting a car, go to our First Time Car Rental Guide and follow the instructions.
Where can I drive my rental car?
Our budget vehicles can travel between Noosa and Tweed Heads. Our top range vehicles can travel South to Sydney and North to Cairns if the hire period is sufficiently long. You may not travel any further West than Toowoomba.
Does the rental price include Insurance Cover?
All our vehicles have Third Party cover for other person/property damage in the event of an accident. You can also add our Collision Damage Waiver for an additional fee.
When do I pay for the Rental Car?
Full payment is required before picking up your rental car.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept Cash, Visa, Mastercard and American Express. Note: AMEX attracts a 5% surcharge to cover merchant fees. We do not accept Diners Club.
Are there any hidden fees or charges?
All of our fees and charges are explained clearly in the booking process.
Why do the “daily rates” vary and will they change when I book?
Daily rates changes can be due to seasons, holiday periods or availability. The rates are set at the time of your booking and do not change for the duration of your hire period.
Do I have to fill the petrol tank when I return the vehicle?
Yes, you must return the vehicle with a full tank of fuel if the tank was full when you hired it. We can refuel the vehicle on your behalf, but it will incur a small administration fee.
Are there any fees if I cancel a booking?
Car hire bookings cancelled within 30 days of travel will incur a $50 cancellation fee. Bookings cancelled within 7 days of travel will require payment of the full balance of the hire. You may be entitled to re-imbursement through your travel insurance.
What happens if I return the vehicle late?
Coastal Car Hire allow a four hours from time of collection to time of return. Unless prior arrangements have been made you will be charged an additional day’s hire after that four hour period.
How many kilometres can I travel per day for free?
Unlimited means just that – unlimited and you drive your hire car without any kilometre restrictions (subject to the length of your hire).
Does the rental car come with a Street Directory?
We provide a Free Street Directory with every renatl car. If you prefer you can also add a Nav-Man GPS to your car hire.
How old do I need to be to hire a vehicle?
The minimum age for hiring a car is 21 years, but there is a charge for those under 25. There is no maximum age restriction.
I am coming from overseas, do I need an International Drivers License?
No – a valid Driver’s License is all that is required.
Do you have Car Seats for hire?
Yes – we have child seats and booster seats available. Other car rentals accessories are also available by request (see booking form).
Can my fellow travellers drive the vehicle too?
Yes – up to 4 drivers are able to drive, as long as they are over 21, have a valid Driver's Licence, and are noted on the contract. There is a fee for additional drivers 3+.
Can I return the vehicle after hours?
Yes – you can return the vehicle 24 hrs a day at our designated locations, but after hours drop-offs must be pre-arranged when you collect the vehicle.
Can you deliver the vehicle to my Hotel?
Yes – delivery to your hotel is possible, but this must be pre-booked and incurs a small fee.
Can I use another person’s Credit Card for booking?
No - sorry we do not allow bookings using another person's card.
Can I extend the hire period during my Rental?
Yes – but you must phone in advance to verify the availability of the hire vehicle you currently have. If you have taken out our Collision Damage Waiver, the vehicle must be inspected before extension will be permitted.
Can I guarantee the make and model of my hire vehicle?
We can usually provide you with the vehicle you chose at the time of booking unless it is currently undergoing repair or maintenance.
Is Roadside Assistance available?
Yes – we do offer Roadside Assistance 24/7. Please contact the staff in the event of an emergency.
Can I tow anything with my rental vehicle?
No - sorry we do not offer the facilities for towing at all.
What if I receive a fine when driving my hire car?
All drivers are responsible for fines received. Payments to cover fines will be debited from your Credit Card together with a small administration fee. A receipt for the payment will be sent on to you.
What happens if I have an accident?
You must notify immediately of any accident. An Incident Report is included in the vehicle for you to complete. We will assist you with the procedure and help you resume your travel as soon as possible.
What about Insurance Policies?
We can help you regarding your Excess and any Risk associated with vehicle hire. We also encourage you to talk to your Travel Agent or Insurance Company prior to booking your vehicle.
